    Unanswered: Assistance with replicaiton

    Hello All!

I need to learn replication in Postgresql with a fair amount of handholding. I figure the best way is to get a good book and go step by step.

These 2 titles from O'Reilly seem promising and I'd like an opinion

    The first is:
    PostgreSQL Replication
    By Zoltan Boszormenyi, Hans-Jurgen Schonig
    Publisher: Packt Publishing
    Released: August 2013
    Pages: 250

    and the second is:

    Larger Cover
Instant PostgreSQL Backup and Restore How-to
    By Shaun M. Thomas
    Publisher: Packt Publishing
    Released: March 2013
    Pages: 54

I want to learn and retain it. That is why I thought a step-by-step book would be better than a how-to from google or howtoforge. And, I cannot expect folks in a forum or IRC to spend the amount of time needed to explain the process in that detail.

So if anyone can recommend one of these above the other, or another title I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks so much

O'Reilly books are usually my favorites, but they cannot update them fast enough to keep up with new development. Postgresql changes enough with each release that you might not be getting the best bang for your buck. That said, they still might give you enough to get going, then you could go look at the online docs at and you might actually understand everything you'd read there. Of course, if you were already database centric, then I'd just start with the online docs.
