    Unanswered: MySQL - Application Schema

    I am looking for tables which are used to create the INFORMATION_SCHEMA view

    Why?

    From memory MySQL creates these as temporary tables during start up. However, unlike regular tables you cannot modify them in any way.

    MySQL - Information Schema

    Thank you for the response. I had also read the information on the link you sent.

    In my research I am trying to make changes at the application schema level. In this case I would like to experiment on how to swap fields, eg change lname to fname. Take note not at the data application level.

    Sorry, I'm not following this?

    Perhaps you might want to look at views as an abstraction layer:

    CREATE VIEW your_view
      AS
    SELECT fname As lname
          , lname As fname
    FROM   your_table
    ?

    never to DML on INFORMATION_SCHEMA. It may destroy your DBs
