    Hi,
    I wanted to see if you were repeating raw files somewhere. You are not.
    Add to your resources file the CCSOC_TEST_SDS.rs the option sqlsrv.force_buildmaster: yes

    And give it a go. I think that device d501 was probably used, true?

    Hi,

    Actually d501 is the new raw device created with 1 gb space on it , and its not used for any other instance , specific to the new instance we have ordered 4 new raw devices .

    any how i will try with that option and will get back to you

    Hi ,
    got the following error , after adding the sqlsrv.force_buildmaster: yes

    first error

    $ srvbuildres -r abc_TEST_SDS.rs
    /opt/sybase/ase/15.0.1/ASE-15_0/ASE-15_0 is not a directory.
    /opt/sybase/ase/15.0.1/ASE-15_0/ASE-15_0 is not a directory.

    Now i have removed the directory ASE-15_0

    second error
    $ srvbuildres -r abc_TEST_SDS.rs
    Building Adaptive Server 'abc_TEST_SDS':
    Writing entry into directory services...
    Directory services entry complete.

    Hi,

    The issue is on the raw device. Try to create it just confirm the master on the d502 or any other execpt d501.

    i have already tried with other available devices too like d503 and d504 , both are fresh raw devices .

    even checked with unix team for the status of raw devices whethere they are fresh or requires any formatting again . but they confirmed its fresh raw device and ready for using installation.

    Hi,

    That is just a warning saying that it will overwite whatever is on that raw device.
    So it seems it worked with the other devices? ( i dont see the "kernel kicrmaster: Unable to write config block to " message.

    kernel kistartup: Unable to create master device.

    kernel kistartup: Unable to create master device.

    the same error is raised again .

    Okay last option im seing is the devices.

    The devices were created on cyclinder 0.
    Do not create a partition that starts on cyclinder 0 as it will overwrite OS disk label information.
    Normally they start the partition at cylinder 2 or 4, not 0.

    Check with OS guys.

    Thanks for that , I have checked on the raw devices used by other instance on the same host , all the cylinders are started from 0 , even the latest instance which i have created has also the cylinder 0 , then i dont think this is causing any issues .

    As similaraly in oracle instace for other application i have checked and there also the same process is there .

    Can you tell whether the process i am following to create the second instance is right or not , if not could you please guide me in creating a 2nd instance on the same host .
