Unanswered: Auto Primary Key until manually entered in field

Is it possible for me to have a data base with the primary key set as an Auto-Number BUT I can go back into the database and then change that number manually?

Im creating a simple database of grocery items, and I want to make use of the barcodes on them, typing in the numbers will be a bit too much work for me, so i will be buying a barcode reader in the near future.

No, you can't edit the value in an Autonumber column in Access.
    Have a nice day!

its either OR, but NOT BOTH.

if it helps an autonumber column should have no meaning outside the system itself. users should NOT be using an autonumber column, say, as a replacement for an invoice number, GRN, or anything else where the number has a significant meaning.
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton
