    Unanswered: How many logs should I keep ?

    Experts,

    As I believed so far, the transaction logs required for successful recovery are the logs starting from firstlog of the full backup image.

    So if I look into the history, I can delete all logs prior to FIRSTLOG of that backup image.

    For example if I want to retain following images;
    Code:
    PTN    START_TIME     END_TIME       FIRSTLOG     LASTLOG
    ------ -------------- -------------- ------------ ------------
         0 20140721175829 20140721182303 S0125311.LOG S0125311.LOG
         0 20140714233452 20140715020240 S0125310.LOG S0125310.LOG
    Then I can delete all logs prior to S0125310.LOG.

    Please help me understand if I am wrong.

    TIA

    Depends on your backup retention policy, in addition to your backup-policy.
    Retention policies are usually a business (sometimes regulatory) decision, not a technical one. Normally you can erase logs older than the oldest full backup from which you might be required to recover...

    So that is what I had indicated; means my approach is correct !

    Thanks
