I'm naive about db2, so apologies if the answer to this is obvious. I have trawled around the documentation for some time with no joy yet..
Problem: A colleague has unintentionally uninstalled a DB2 instance (as part of another product install). We would like to recover the data from the database files, which appear to have been left intact. We have another server available with the same DB2 version as the one that was uninstalled.
We have looked into copying the files to the other server and trying to get it to catalog them, but this doesn't appear to work. We've also explored options around reinstalling and trying to get the new installation to use the existing files, but that option doesn't seem to work either.
just re-create the instance from root
db2installpath/instance/db2icrt -u db2fenc db2inst <-- with correct userid
su - instanceowner
catalog db xxx /yyy
xxx is dbname
yyy is the path where db has been created originally
db2 list db directory on /xxxxx <-- to check if any db was cataloged on /xxx

Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.
Spoon feeding : To treat (another) in a way that discourages independent thought or action, as by overindulgence.
