    Unanswered: MQT- maintained by USER

    Hello all,

    Db2 10.1 on RHEL 5

    I am studying about MQTs
DB2 Basics: An introduction to materialized query tables

I wonder whats the defference between a normal table and a MQT - maintained by USER.

    1. Both TABLE and MQT - maintained by USER. - Allow nsert, update, or delete.
    2. REFRESH TABLE cant be used for MQT - maintained by USER.

So how its different from normal table ? where to use such MQT ?

    thanks in advance

    mqt is always mqt
maintained by system immediate / deferred / refresh
as I understand : maintained by user : the user executes the "refresh" whenever needed
the refresh command is not supported for user mqt
User-maintained MQTs do allow insert, update, or delete
you create a query table based on the layout of base table and will be accessed directly.
for mqt : the user does not know the mqt and always uses the base table - if needed/possible the system will route the query to the mqt
