Unanswered: Can DB2 Client v9.7 Connect to 8.1.1 Database?

Is it possible for a DB2 9.7 Data Server client to connect to a version 8 database? We have an older database that several clients need to use, but I'm having problems getting the connectivity to work.

I've attempted to run the binds on the client side (@db2ubind.lst) when connected to the 8 database as admin, but there's lot of errors. My conclusion is that this can't be done successfully.

A snip of the errors are shown below:

Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.

Guy, you're right on the nail. I added this to the bind command and now my SQL connection from a 9.7 client to an 8.1.1 database works! Thank you very much.

    For completeness/reference, here's the steps:

    1) Log on as instance owner on the DB2 Data Server Runtime Client 9.7 system
    2) Connect to the version 8 database as admin user
    3) Run the bind:

db2 bind /home/db2inst1/sqllib/bnd/@db2ubind.lst BLOCKING ALL GRANT PUBLIC ACTION REPLACE SQLERROR CONTINUE

    4) db2 terminate
