Unanswered: drop table free space ?

    Hi all,

    Db2 10.1 WSE on RHEL 5

Just dropping a 50MB table will release the storage ? Whats the default behavior of DROP ?

I understand Truncate will do it.

So, is it necessary to truncate every table before dropping it to get the storage freed ?

    thanks

there are a few options. You can reorg the table and reclaim the storage, you can run the drop as you mentioned as well. This will of course not give the space back to the OS, only to the tablespace. If you need the space back at the OS you can run a shrink on the tablespace.
