    Lightbulb Unanswered: Why We Use Right Outer Join instead of left outer Join?

    Which is Better ..left outer Join or rIght outer Join?
    i.e. table 1 left outer join table 2 is better or table 2 right outer join table 1 is better??

    why we Use Right Outer Join?

    check the access plan - if there are good predicates on both tables and indexes for these predicates.. then it is not very important. only if tablescans are involved..

    They are the same. DB2 rewrites a Right outer to Left outer. So, its up to you, but most times it is easier for people to understand the concept of left outer. If you were to find a difference in access plan please open a PMR with IBM as they should be the same.
