Unanswered: Looking for a Kiosk App.

    Hi all.
Can any of you recommend a free Kiosk application that would allow me to lock down a PC to run only two applications.

A database and a web browser.

There are so many program available that it's hard to find a good one. Many that are free are not truly free at all, so I was wondering have any of you come across one that's worth using?

Has to be free because the client is unlikley to even pay me let alone pay for a Kiosk program.

    Regards
    James.

    Hi James

We generally only use paid for kiosk software and use either Kioware or Sitekiosk because we tend to use our kiosks in retail or public environments which might be different from your needs? There are a couple of free or open source applications that spring to mind but I don't know if they will do what you want or if you have already looked at them.
    1. OpenKiosk http://openkiosk.mozdevgroup.com/install.html
    2. Mirabyte FrontFace http://www.mirabyte.com/en/products/.../features.html
    3. Inteset Secure Lockdown v2 http://shop.inteset.com/lock-down-wi...ecure-lockdown BUT this costs $19.95

Not sure if this one would be of any help to you but I include it anyway http://www.horizondatasys.com/en/pro...Id=18#Features

I will also check with one of my colleagues in the office if he has any ideas as he works on kiosks a fair bit.
Doesn't the latest version of Windows (8.1) have a special kiosk mode? Don't know much about it yet but might solve your problem although it sounds like you have the same customers that we do - Can we have the gold plated solution at the paper and string price (and by the way, we don't want to pay you for all the work you've done)!!!
Don't know if any of this helps but who knows!

    Thanks guys.

    Hi Doug.
Thanks for that link and the info on Windows 8 Kiosk Mode. Seems Win8 will only run Moderen Apps (Metro) under Kiosk mode, but that still may also be an option as I can simply write a Splash Screen App that allows me to launch what I need.

    Regards
    James
