Unanswered: Could not find server in sys.servers

I am trying to move a database/app from one sql2005 server to another sql 2005.

Part of the app contains a function that executes an sql statement on the remote server.

The error message I receive is Could not find server STORE4 in sys.servers. Verify that the correct server name was specified.

The remote server is called STORE4 and the sql statement is
    SELECT SiteID,SiteName,Latitude,Longitude,CoordinateSourc eType FROM STORE4.SitesDB.dbo.Sites

STORE4 is in the sys.servers so it cannot be added by sp_addlinkedserver

Can anyone give me some clues as to what this error message might mean and how to fix it.

Check the name of the server to make sure that it does not contain leading or trailing spaces. Also check to see if you can run the query yourself outside of the application.
