Unanswered: A formula to return the respective value associated with a name

there are two columns in an excel sheet like the following, showing the score of 50 persons.

    sheet1

    Code:
                A B
       1 Jack 160
       2 Steve 95
       3 John 47
       . . .
       . . .
       . . .
      50 Kate 21

we need a formula to return the respective score of each member. for example if we write John in the cell C3 we want to have 47 in D3. i could use IF formula. but it doesn't make sense to use 50 criteria in an IF formula.
    thank y ou

    consider using the vlookup function
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton
