    Answered: How to Append specific field in Append Query

    I have two tables "tblEmployees" and "tblEmployeesTemp"
    When I try to append a field "DesignationDate" in "tblEmployeesTemp" to a field "DesigantionDate" in "tblEmployees", it just adds new records rather than filling field with prerecords.. Please Help!!

    "Append means add, whereas you want to update existing rows., so what I susoect you want to do is something similar to :-
    Code:
    UPDATE table1 set mycolumn = table2.thatcolumn where
    Table1.pkcolumn1 = table2.pkcolumn1
    Replace:-
    The table1/2 with the names if your tables
    The mycolumn with the name of the date column you want to update
    The thatcolumn with the name of the column that has the value you want frim the other table
    The pkcolumn1/2 with name(s) of that contains the employee ID in both tables"

    So?
    You havent supplied the name of a column in your tables. If the JET engine cannot find the column name in a query it presumes you want to supply that value at runtime.
    As we dont know your table design, ir do we know the query you are attemlting to ru, nor do you repeat the error message its impossible to say what the fix is.
    Examine the query,make certain there are no spelling mistakes
