Answered: DB2 backup / Restore Fragmentation

    Hi,

Does anyone know if restoring an on-line db2 backup will remove table fragmentation or does the backup image contain the fragmented tables and restores in the same format?

    This is on:

    DB2 9.7 FP 7
    AIX 6.1.0.0

    Backup command:
db2 backup database dbname online to /backup/junk with 2 buffers buffer 1024 parallelism 1 COMPRESS include logs without prompting

    Restore command:
db2 "restore db dbname from /backup/junk DBPATH ON /databases INTO newdbname logtarget /tmp/logrest"

    Thanks

Backup saves your pages as is into the backup image as is.
Restore puts these pages back into the tablespace containers as is."
