Unanswered: Tool Analyze Oracle Server dump

    Hi all,

I am interested in analyzing an Oracle Database.
The database is in production, but they agreed to give me a DB dump.
The question is, are there any open source or commercial tools for performing analysis of the data?
By analysis I mean search and advanced search, based on regular expressions and such?
Is there a place where I can learn more about database dump formats and how to analyze them?

    Thank and cheers

As far as I can tell, you should install Oracle onto your computer, import the DMP file you got (by the way, what is it? Is it the whole database, or just a single schema, or ...?) and then analyze data using SQL tools (where SQL*Plus is a command line tool, Oracle SQL Developer is a free GUI tool, etc.).

Because, I'm not sure that you can analyze the original DMP file.
