Unanswered: DB2 Not Starting on Windows 7 (VM)

    Hi All,

I am using a Windows 7 VM with DB2 v 9.7.0.441 installed. I am not able to start the DB2 on this machine, it gives me the following error.

SQL1042C An unexpected system error occurred.
SQL1032N No start database manager command was issued. SQLSTATE=57019

The person who was using this VM before says its working. I am a newbie to DB2. Any pointers will be highly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    G-Jay

You should start DB2 on that VM:
    - Use db2start from a DB2 CLP window
    - Start DB2 process from Windows services (that will be something like DB2 - DB2COPY1 - DB2-0 db2syscs.exe)

    db2syscs.exe didn't start

    I have tried starting the 'DB2 - DB2COPY1 - DB2-0' / C:\IBM\SQLLIB\bin\db2syscs.exe, but it resulted in following error.
db2start : SQL1042C An unexpected system error occurred.

    db2diag.log

This is what I see in db2diag.log when I run the db2start as administrator.

Firstly, why are you still using 32bit and that too FP 0 instance? Should goto latest fp and 64bit. Then test it and if still same problem take a db2trc for that.

It was not a newly installed Database, it came as part of Ibm Websphere commerce VM. Changing it would be bit difficult.

Ask that person to demonstrate it working, then find out what changed, and use that as the basis for fixing it. If the person cannot demonstrate it working on your VM then find a working VM and determine what is different. Users/groups/permissions/versions/fixpacks etc.

    When I see "fixpack 0" with DB2 on Windows/Unix , it's a red flag...
