Smile Unanswered: importing/reading specific data from a text file

    Hello All,

I can really use an expert advice from the gurus here.

At work I have a program that allows me to save a config using a browser that will let me copy the output in a text and or html file. In order to launch a config window you have to click a link in the browser which it turn opens a separate browser popup window.

output data has lots of info but I am looking for info that starts with the word show with greater than sign in front of it....

    for example:
    >SHOW FAN
    FAN HEALTH:
    FAN1: OK
    FAN2: OK
    VERSION: 5.3

    > SHOW LIGHTS
    #LIGHTS ALL GREEN
    etc etc etc

I have tried in Access, Excel and visual basic but no luck.

Data is mix so I understand it is going to be difficult to read/import.

what I would like to have is an interface where using txt file I can either view it immediately or import it and then view it after it is saved.
I would prefer access to do it but other programs are ok as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions and or samples I can get started with?

    I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Hello Myle,
    Thanks for your quick response!

I have tried creating an excel file using the example from the website and ran into an error. if I click on debug it highlights the first activecell line in yellow.

I am going to upload error screen shot here but I am not sure I should do that as this forum is for access only? or I can copy paste this in the excel forum?

also since I absolutely love access is there anyway to just pluck out the data that I am looking for using access?

Msaccess doent not know what activecell is

if you debug.print linefromfile you see something

then base on you data split by the :

    now LineItems will show

    LineItems(0)= should be the Feildname

LineItems(1) = should be the Value
    hope this help
