    Unanswered: Backup problem in db2

    Hi ,

I am new to db2 i am working at client location.Recently while taking the backup it is initiated but in list utilities it shows that " No data was returned by Database System Monitor" and backup image was not created. Daily we are taking the online incremental backup. when we got the issue we checked the diag file there is no error.
can any one plz explain how can i resolve this?

    Hi,

Is there any entry in the 'list history backup' command output for this database at that time?
What was the output of the session initiated that backup?
    Regards,
    Mark.

    Hi,
No there is not any entry. In the 'list history backup' command output it will shows the previously completed backup time-stamp. The active sessions are at 25-40 at that time.

At that time my superior came and disconnected the applications to bounce the instance but suddenly when we disconnect the applications the backup is started. Is there any connection to backup and active sessions?

If there is no connection then why it is not initiated?

Backup uses its own database connection.
I've never seen that if backup was initiated, then there was no entry in the 'list history backup' command output or the corresponding messages in the db2diag.log file.
How did you realize that the backup was initiated?

it dosen't come out from execution its like we can't go to the next line

when executed the command the list utilities command will show the output how much percentage it is done but at that time it showing ' No data was returned by Database System Monitor.'

So, do you want us to guess using this information about blinking cursor, if the backup really started and what happened with it if so?
What was the output of this script?
Did it finish itself or did you interrupt it?
    Regards,
    Mark.

    Hi,

When i execute the command the script is running and i waited for 40 minutes and then in another session i execute the command db2 list utilities then it gives the output like 'No data was returned by Database System Monitor.' .Then i interrupt it by using Ctrl+c then i execute it several times same happened
after that my superior disconnected the applications then backup is started automatically.

    Thanks.

It's not enough information to conclude what happened.
You should use 'set -x' command in the script to understand where it hangs.
Backup might wait on lock, for example (if you really reached the backup command in the script).

So, try to use mon_lockwaits view next time.
