Unanswered: Backing up a split db

    Hi,

Currently running a 2016 split ms access db whereby users have their copy of the FE that is linked to the BE.

Couple of questions regarding database maintenance:

    1. As an admin I can perform compact & repair, link table manager etc. w/o any problem. But, when I try to perform backups, I get “Error No: 70 Description: Permission denied”

    2. What is the best practice in terms of maintenance: what to backup BE/FE, how often etc. Currently only the FE that is linked to the BE is being backed up daily.

    TIA

    Regards,

All you have to do is copy the BE to another drive. I put a date stamp in the name.

    MyDb-170301-1245.mdb

There should be no errors in a copy paste.
    I backup daily. Sometimes hourly.

    ranman256,

    Thanks for the reply post.

So, even if the FE is linked to the BE, you think I should include on my daily backup both the FE & BE?

The backup was set up to be saved in the network “backup folder”. And, when I attempted to open this folder to see what’s being backed up, I got permission error.

This may be the reason why I can’t save to this location. I’ll talk to the IT folks to grant me access and try.

    Regards,

the FE should not change, besides, the master copy of the FE should be backed up each time its modified.
but then, EVERY user is a backup.

    Thanks ranman256
    If I understand correctly:
    Always backup the BE
Only backup the master FE (each time it's modify)
