    Unanswered: Data validation happening twice

    I have code in a form beforeupdate procedure that checks to ensure certain fields are filled in and if they are not, a message box appears and focus is set back to that field.

    I then have a search field so a user can search records. If a field is missed on the form, and the user navigates to perform a search, two validation messages appear if a field is not filled in. Two message boxes appear identical and I can't figure out why this is happening only when the search box is used.

    I have this code in the search box. It is in the afterupdate procedure

    If Not IsNull(Me!FSS) Then
    Me.RecordSource = "Select * from [Claim Tracking System] where [Social Security] = '" & Forms![CLAIMS TRACKING SYSTEM]!FSS & "'"

    Me.OrderBy = "Last Updated desc"
    Me.OrderByOn = True

    You should have no need to change the form recordsource during edit.
