Answered: How do I explain why MS Access database application is better than existing MS Excel

I am an intern developing an MS Access database application for the Accrual and Commitment Tool currently in Excel.

I plan on presenting my application soon and a point I want to put forward is how and why this application is better than the Excel format.

Easier form and report development make for prettier applications? You may be amazed at how important a pretty interface is for some users.

    Seeing is believing

I think you have to show them what you they can do in the application better than what they can do in Excel. And it has to be something that they need to do. If they need to maintain data integrity, start there.

By definition a RELATION Database will be significantly better than a spread sheet, provided the tables and data is normalised correctly. Data can be queried and reports produced in just about any way you like, given correct design.
Also, data integrity is fare better controlled in a DB.
