    Unanswered: Oracle Startup error

I am trying to startup oracle in nomount stage after installation to create the database, but I am getting an error called "end-of-communication", oracle error 3114. I checked again to make sure that I am logged on as internal, but even then I am getting this error. What could be the problem ? The alert log does not give enough information.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The problem may be in the settings of your environment (OS / DB).

What version of Oracle are you running and on which platform (OS) ?

Have you correctly generated your passwordfile? Check also that you set $ORACLE_SID.

    Let me know....
