Unanswered: Oracle Remote Connection uses always different ports

    Hello all,

I have a problem with the remote connection from an oracle client to an oracle server. In between the the network path there is a firewall. When I try to connect with dba studio or sqlplus worksheet in the firewall logs I can see one port, which is always the same and which can pass the firewall and another port, which changes every time I try to connect. Because I don't know the port, which is used next time, the connect is always dropped on the firewall.

Can anybody tell me, how I configure my oracle client to use always the same ports for the connection?

    Regards
    Joe

    Hi!!
This problem is only true if your RDBMS runs on a windows machine, ins't it?
On unix machines the problem is not present...

The way to set the environment working is to put a new string in the registry:

    under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    create a string
    USE_SHARED_SOCKET
    with value TRUE

    and then restart the listener.

This works unless you have Oracle 8.1.7 ; in this case you should patch to 8.1.7.2 or you cannot use USE_SHARED_SOCKET.

    this worked for me.

    regards
