Red face Unanswered: linked excel table opened exclusively

    Hi
I use Access97 form to enter data to a linked Excel(97) table. This is to be shared on the network. I put all files concerned on the network . It works fine for single user but as soon as the second user try to open it, the Access file itself seemed to be opened ok but when he runs the data entry form, the Microsoft Jet Engine error pop up saying that it can't open the (linked) excel file because somebody has it exclusively opened.
I have shared the Excel file, I have created Access Workgroup so that users cannot open the access file exclusively (This bit must have work as the Access file open up ok). Is there anyway to get the linked Excel table to open as share?
    Please advise .
    Thank you

When you say you "shared" the Excel Workbook, do you mean you followed these steps?

Tools, Share Workbook, Check "Allow Changes by more than one user..."?

Did you then Protect the workbook for sharing?

    Tools, Protection, Protect Shared Workbook

    Yes I did.
I had a VB script to open Access form which in effect open an access database with linked Excel table. If that's relevant. Do you think I need a VBA Access script to non-exclusively open the linked Excel table.
    Thanks, Melanie
