Unanswered: Oracle 8.1.7 for Linux Intel

    Hi,

I know that the installation guide clearly states that I need a CD-ROM to install Oracle 8.1.7 for Linux Intel...

I downloaded the installation from Oracle web site and I do not have a CD-ROM writer to put it on a CD.

Do I really need to burn a CD? Or I can run installation from a directory?

    Thanks in advance,
    Edward

yes you can install if from a directory after you compress it.... be forewarned, 8.1.7 on linux is a real pain in the A**

There is several steps you must accomplish first, and oracle's documentation leaves out 99% of it. Depending on the version of your libraries, and kernel and thus your version of linux, you will encounter assorted problems. You would be well advised to search for one of many different "installing 8.1.7 on Linux" guides that are scattered around the net.

    Hi...

I installed 8.1.7 on Linux, and it was not a easy install. I would suggest you find a way to get a copy on a CD.
