    Unanswered: character set conversion

    Hello!!!

I am planning to convert the character set one of our databases from WE8ISO8859P1 to UTF8 to support euro symbol and others.

    I plan to use

    alter database character set <character_set>

however, apart from testing any lossy conversion (csscan...), has anyone tried this on a production database?

I'd like to know if anyone experienced strange behaviour in applications after the conversion, or if everything went well...

    I appreciate suggestions...

    thanks,
    andrea

    Test

I would definatively try this in a copy of your production database first.

I find this tricky, especially since you are going from a single byte character set to double byte.

    Hello Andrea,

I've done this conversion from usascii7 to WE8ISO8859P15 on 20 databases(after backup) . Went OK , but I was sure that acsii7 was a real charactersubset of WE8ISO8859P15.

BUT in your case the WE8ISO8859P1 is NOT a real subset of UTF8 !!
    (according to http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/...atabase_id=NOT )
