Hi,

I have having an issue with locks on tempdb that I was hoping to get some insight on. Currently there is a tremendous amount of locking occuring on tempdb. Below is a sample of sp_lock. There are numerous extent locks happening, which I believe is due to object (temp table) creation. Also, locks are occuring on the sysobjects, syscolumns, and sysindexes system tables and they are unable to be queryed on tempdb. When querying syslockinfo the locks on the temporary tables are 'Sch-M'. There are performance issues (excessive i/o) with the server in question currently not there is not any blocking occuring when looking at sp_who2. We are running SQL2000 sp2 on Win2000. MTS is managing the transactions.

Does anyone know why this excessive locking is occuring? Any help would be apprecited. Below is a sample from sp_lock.

Thanks

Michael
