    Question Unanswered: DB2 Restore problem

    Hello,
I have created a backup image of a database "dbname1" on "SERVER1\K". I need to create a new database "dbname2" on "SERVER2" using backup image on SERVER1 over the network. I issued the following command at db2 prompt,
"restore database dbname1 from \\server1\k taken at 'TIMESTAMP' to C: into dbname2 with 2 buffers buffer 1024"

I got the error "The path for the file or device "\\server1\k" is not valid".

Thro' a DOS command on SERVER2, "DIR \\SERVER1\k", I am able to list the contents of the directory

The protocols that are configured on SERVER1 and SERVER2 are TCPIP, NETBIOS.

I will be greatful to you if you could tell me how to resolve this issue.

I have a feeling that DB2 doesn't recognize the notation \\server1\k . I'd suggest that you do a 'map network drive' and then issue the command.

say, restore database <dbname> from G:\

    Hope this helps ...

    Cheers

    Hi Sathyaram,
    thanks for thwe quick reply..
    "\\SERVER1\K" is working on a different m/c.
I tried to map the dirve but still getting the same error message.
Is there any Protocol setting that I need to do?
