    Unanswered: Forgot Admin Password

Someone I work with created an Access 97 database, secured it, then forgot the Admin password.

    Anything he can do?

We figured it out. It's really insane that Access security can be removed just by replacing the system.mdw file. That's what we did and it worked.

well it is a good thing that someone did a bad job of securing the database.

A well secured database removes the Admin account from the Admins group, creates a new account to be used for admin purposes (perhaps "Administrator") and then uses a uniquely named MDW file to authenticate to the database.

In which case you are much more screwed if you don't have any backdoors into the DB (a good reason to maintain an unsecured copy of the DB for development)

The way your database was/is secured, any other user who had not had their System.mdw file changed would have been able to enter your database as an admin...
