    Normally you find out the defenition of a view by doing
    select text from dba_views where view_name='VIEWNAME';

    The name of the view in this case is V_$PARAMETER.

    SQL> select text from dba_views where view_name='V_$PARAMETER';

    TEXT
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    select "NUM","NAME","TYPE","VALUE","ISDEFAULT","ISSES_MOD IFIABLE","ISSYS_MODIFIA
    BLE","ISMODIFIED","ISADJUSTED","DESCRIPTION" from v$parameter

    uhh.. v$parameter?

    Hmm.. gotta check this out... apparently Oracle doesn't want us to know the tables underneath the views.. but Iwill find it

    The view v$parameter has the following definition:

    select indx+1,ksppinm,ksppity,ksppivl,ksppidf
    from x$ksppi
    where translate(ksppinm,'_','#') not like '#%'
    /

    If you are interested to find out the rest of the v$ views, visit:

    http://www.dbaclick.com/ftp/documents/oracle/ioug/docs/

    (The X$ tables.doc) somewhere on the bottom.

    Hope that helps,
