Unanswered: DB not shutting down with SHUTDOWN

I have an ORACLE 8i DB running on s=a SUN SPARC for a month. I logged ina ssystem/Manager and tried a SHUTDOWN.

I get an error : insufficient privileges. and I wonder why. SO the DB is not shutting down.

    Can anybody please help me?.

I have done it before and had no problems. I am preparing for my OCP and I wonder if I changed anything while paractising. I only remember doing SQL.

    Thanks

Starting or shutting down an instance requires SYSDBA permissions, which SYSTEM doesn't have normally.
Try logging in as "SYS as SYSDBA" or "INTERNAL".

    Found the answer.

    I have to type svmgrl

    connect internal and then SHUTDOWN.
