    Unanswered: migration 7.3.4 to 8i on NT4

    Hi guys.
    So, I'm running NT4.0 with SP5 , Oracle 7.3.4 and try to have Oracle 8i on the same machine. Here is what I've done:
    1. installed 8i into another home on the same machine
    g:\apps\orant
    2. increased system tablespace and rollback maxextents = was enough!
    3. svrmgr23>ALTER USER SYSTEM DEFAULT TABLESPACE SYSTEM;
    4. from line command I started the migration:
    svrmgr23>shutdown immediate
    5. d:\apps\orant\bin> .\mig pfile=d:\apps\orant\database\initivc3.ora
    check_only=true spool=....

    ORA-01093: alter database close only permitted with no sessions connected
    and the process was stopped!
    Even if i did:
    5. svrmgr23>select sid,serial#,username,server from v$session;
    SID SERIAL# USERNAME SERVER
    ---------- ---------- ------------------------------ ---------
    1 1 DEDICATED
    2 1 DEDICATED
    3 1 DEDICATED
    4 1 DEDICATED
    5 1 DEDICATED
    6 1 DEDICATED
    7 1 DEDICATED
    8 3 DBSNMP DEDICATED
    12 7 SYS DEDICATED
    9 rows selected.
    SVRMGR> alter system kill session '8,3';
    Statement processed.
    SVRMGR> alter database close;
    alter database close
    *
    ORA-01093: ALTER DATABASE CLOSE only permitted with no sessions connected
    SVRMGR>

    I don't know how to pass this step so far. I tried many times but same result.
    I attached the mig spool file, just in case.

    Hi,

    As I know the best method to migrate from 7.3 to 8i is to take a dump of 7.3 database and importing it into 8i. I too have faced problems with migration. Then stopped trying it, and moved on the export/import method. It works neat.

    HTH
