    Unanswered: Command Center Hangs

    Hi All

I have recently upgraded from DB2 Administration Client ver 6 to 7
    on an NT Workstation.

The Command Center now hangs when I try to load it up. Iv'e
tried a re-installation but it still acts up.

Any solution would be much appreciated

how much memory do you have???

do you see the command center up before it hungs up? or it totally would not come out?

try to uninstall and try to clean up your registry then try installing again.... maybe that would help

There is 256 Mb on the PC.

The initial screen for the Command Center appears, the backgroud
    appears and then it hangs.

Iv'e tried cleaning up the registry and re-installing but the problem
re-occurs. This morning when I tried it first thing it worked, but before
the day is out it will start hanging.

    Thanks for your reply.

Ok, does your whole system hang or just db2 control center? With DB2 7 there seems to be a problem with opening up pop-up logins. I'm not sure if were experiencing the same problem, just try this, when your db2 control center hangs try clicking inside it, does your system beep?

It's just the DB2 control center which hangs. The task manager shows
it as running. Any other running applications are slowed down during this.

Unfortunately or fortunately the command center is actually running today so I can't run that test.

What I did this morning was to delete and re-create all my data sources. I thought they may have been holding some reference to Version 6. I don't think that's why it's working again. I think this is some conflict be it memory or what.

I will try the test you suggested when it hangs.

The Command Center hangs when I use it !. I connected to a datasource and ran a query .. I then closed it down and tried to open it up again and it hangs.

I took a screen print of all the process's which were running during the time the Control Center was running ok and one when it was hanging.
The difference is a process which is jrew.exe please see below for another posing re this:

    Control center hangs

I found that the DB2 version 7, hangs all the time....its ridiculous.

I don't know a work around for the control center, but for using the command center i.e. writing queries. My whole team now uses winSQL, its freeware and is a lot easier to use than command center.

I have found a fix for it hanging:

Open a Command Prompt ( make sure your Path is set to run the commands which will be in c:\program files\sqllib )

    Run

    db2jstrt 2222

to start the JDBC Applet Server on Port 2222

    db2cc.bat 2222 -ccf

    this starts the command center

    db2cc 2222

This will run the Control Center if required

But I have found a better fix - Im now using DBArtisan
