    Unanswered: Oracle 8.1.7 JDBC Error

    Hi All,

I'm trying to run a (compiled, no source code) program which connects to Oracle 8.1.7 via JDBC on Solaris 5.6. I've downloaded and installed the Oracle 8.1.7 JDBC drivers. Unfortunately, an error is generated:

    java.lang.InstantiationError: oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBDataSet
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleStatement.initialize(Orac leStatement.java)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleStatement.<init>(OracleSt atement.java)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.createStatemen t(OracleConnection.java)
    at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBAccess.setNlsParamsClient(D BAccess.java:1034)
    at oracle.jdbc.ttc7.TTC7Protocol.initNls(TTC7Protocol .java:1152)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.<init>(OracleC onnection.java)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.getConnectionInsta nce(OracleDriver.java)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.connect(OracleDriv er.java)
    at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager .java:512)
    at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager .java:172)
    at ROV.OracleDBInterface.open(Oracle8DBInterface.java )
    at ROV.MonitorThread.processXMLFile(MonitorThread.jav a)
    at ROV.MonitorThread.run(MonitorThread.java)

A connection is established (as the it briefly appears in V$SESSION). I'm not a Java/JDBC expert and I don't know how to rectify this. I believe the class is in Oracle's class12.zip which is in the CLASSPATH. Any clues?

    Thanks,
    Niels Jakob Darger

    Hi,

The problem has, however, been resolved by reverting to the earlier versions (classes111.zip and nls_charset11.zip).

    Thanks,
    Niels Jakob Darger
