    Exclamation Unanswered: No listener error....

    well, finally i have oracle 9i working properly in 7.2... except by the dammed listener.... the rest works fine.
    the facts are:

    1.- The DB is created
    2.- All the system is functional (sqlplus, dgmgrl, x-based interfaces, etc.)
    3.- The component that isn't working is the listener. (say "no listener")

    the host is ngcch.cl
    the dbname is NGC

    this error comes before fixed some error whit the NLS. I recreated the db (deleted and created again) with dbca, but this wont fix the problem....

    What OS is that? Linux?

    What do u get if you type 'lsnrctl status' ?

    Could be various things wrong, tnsnames setup, listener setup etc.

    If it says it has no services, you probably didn't yet setup the listener.ora (in the ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory)

    This should contain something like:

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = HOSTNAME)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    )
    )
    )

    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = SID)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\product\817)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = RCAT)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\product\817)
    )
    )

    Then restart the listener.

    Also make sure the PORT mentioned in this file is the same as the PORT you mentioned in the TNSNAMES.ORA
