    Unanswered: Is it possible to have 2 oracle database in a stand alone pc??

    Hi Friends,
    I want to create 2 oracle database in a stand alone PC. Can any one help. Thanks.
    Database - Oracle 8i
    OS - Windows 2000

    Hello,
    infact you create 2 instance on your PC. You go in you dba studio and you add a database to the first dabase witch is created while your installation.

    there is no need to create a 2nd instance if you do not want to.

    You can have your instance that is running, using both databases.

    you will need to:

    1. edit your init.ora file and change the instance_name to the instance name you want to use.

    2. startup the database from the oradim utility
    oradim -startup -sid sid_name -usrpwd password -pfile path_to_your_pfile

    the password is the password that was specified when you created your instance (at installation or whatever)

    You can use the Database Assistant utility or the Create Database command to create a second database.
