Question Unanswered: ODBC, File DSN, Microsoft Driver

Has anyone successfully created a valid file DSN for Oracle9i using the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" driver (MSORCL32.DLL, build 2.573.6019.00)? This, I believe, is the latest version supplied in the MDAC. I get the message: "A connection could not be made using the file data source parameters entered."

The MS driver is installed on my users' workstations already. I want to deploy an MSAccess data query tool (in which fairly sophisticated users interact directly in a secured fashion with linked tables) without having to install any other drivers.

Earlier this year, I used Microsoft ODBC drivers for Oracle to connect VB6 (MDAC2.5) frontends to Oracle v8 without problems. Verify that your TNSnames.ora file is properly configured.

    Question

I think the O version may be the problem. I need to use "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" build 2.573.6019.00 to connect to Oracle 9i. Has anyone successfully done this? What's the secret? (There's nothing all that helpful on MSDN, BTW).
