    Question Unanswered: Alert Log

    Hi,

I got a message in the orclALERT.LOG that means:

Thread 1 advanced to long sequence <NUMBER>
    Current log# 3 seq# <NUMBER> mem# 0: D:\<PATH>\REDO01.LOG

This message appears over the whole day (about every minute) and increases the file size of the alert log so that it takes a large amount of disk space.

Can anyone please tell me what I have to do. Or if I can ignore this massage. (Sorry, I'm new )

    Thank You!

    My god man,
This message is fine, it's just telling you that it is advancing through your redo log files - it's normal.

You should move your alert log every so often, then compress it.
Oracle will just create a new one for itself.

    Enjoy

I have written a free log monitoring tool that you can setup easily. It will monitor the log for errors, email them to you, and archive your alert log.

If you decide to use it, let me know if you need help setting it up.
