    Angry Unanswered: Field Type Modification

Is there a way to modify the field types in a table within a macro? I have attempted to write SQL code to alter column but it doesn't like the syntax. I do not see a query method of doing it.

    Example:

After I run a Make Table query, I want to change a couple of fields to Number instead of Text. All of these processes will be included in a final macro before running a report.

Did you try alter table ... alter column ? If so, please provide the statement you used - also, what error did you receive concerning the syntax ?

    I used the following:

    ALTER TABLE tblname
    ALTER COLUMN fldname fldtype

    also used:
    ALTER TABLE tblname
    MODIFY (fldname fldtype)

It says I have a syntax error in the 2nd Alter statement

Using the alter table ... alter column is correct - can you provide the exact statement you were using ?

I gave up on it and found a way to change it in the query using an expression. This way works better because I can combine it with other tasks as well.

Thank you for trying to help.
