Question Unanswered: Lookup question (many to many relationship)

    Hi ,

I have read the posts about lookup tables at dbforums.com (which recommended I don't use lookup tables as part of db schema but in forms instead) - i am going to use lookups in forms instead of the tables design view- i just need reasuring on this one matter: I have several many to many relationships with look up tables, here is an example:

    Table 1:
    Fish_id (primary key)
    Capture method
    etc
    etc

    Table 2:
    fish_id
    capture_method_id

    Table 3:

    Capture_method_id
    Description

(Table 3 is a lookup table)

So...if i want to follow this forums advice about look up tables - i really need to delete table 2 (useless) and keep table 3 just a rowsource for combo fields on my form (ie: table three related to nothing)All i need to keep is table 1 (right???)

just checking, i am paranoid about changing this db design, b/c i am a newbie and did not create it

i you could answer back it would so appreciated

On the information provided you do not need table 2.

    Table One:
    Fish_id (primary key)
    CaptureMethodID
    etc
    etc

    Table 3:

    CaptureMethodID
    Description

(Table 3 is a lookup table)

Then create a one to many relationship from CaptureMethodID in table3 to Table1 same value. Enforce referential integrity, this will force an entry in Table 3 be present for each value in Table1.
