    Angry Unanswered: Oracle 817 install

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle817 enterprise edition on a Win2K server box but am running into the following problem :-
Whenever I press the Install/DeInstall Products button on the autorun.exe it does not do anything except showing the hour glass for a few seconds.
    Any help would be appreciated..

    Thanks,
    rajar

I am betting that this is a Pentium IV machine. See Metalink doc ID: Note:131299.1

Here is the workaround that I used.

    Workaround 1:
    1. Obtain the OUI application (~17.5MBs) under patch number 1507768 in
    Metalink:
    a. Click Patches button
    b. Enter 1507768 in the Patch Number field
    c. Click Submit
    d. Download the patch

    2. Unzip the patch.

    3. Unzip the contents to a directory (~20MBs).

    4. Navigate to:
    \cd\Disk1\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30 \1\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll

    Rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.old

    5. Invoke the OUI executable from the following directory, and install the
    OUI to your hard disk:

    cd .\cd\Disk1\install\win32\setup.exe6.

Use/Invoke this installed OUI from Start menu > Programs, to install
    Oracle 8.1.x and related products.

    Have fun.....

note that the renaming of the dll also fixes the same issue with the vignette client, and most other java clients that you wish to use on a pentium 4 machine.

I just installed Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on Windows 2000 sp2 (Pentium 4) and had the same problems mentioned however I followed these instructions and everything worked out fine.

....same with installation on XP Professional.
    renaming the DLL seems enough.
