    Question Unanswered: Autonumber Autolookup

If anyone has any ideas here, I'd love to hear them.
What I am trying to do is to have a control (Building Number) that if the user inputs a number will automatically fill in the rest of the form. However, if the user leaves it blank (or null) then access automatically assigns it a unique number. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much, in advance.

It sounds as if you basically want your form to all your users to:
    • Select an existng (building) record OR
    • Create a new (building) record

If this is so, create a combo-box using the wizard - select the "Find a Record based on my Selection" option, and use the existing bulding numbers (and names) as a record source. Users can then select the building from the drop-down list and the form will move to that record.

To create a new record, add a Command button to your form which simply creates a new record. Assuming your "Building Number' uses an Autonumber field type then it will be created automatically. IF not you will need to add some code to do this.
