Unanswered: special charecters in contains function of intermedia text

I am using Oracle 8i with intermedia text option. I have created a text index on the text column. When I try to query the column with the special charecters say !, ?, # etc. The query is returning me all the rows in the table. Which is wrong. PLease tell me how can I avoid this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards,
    Sunil.

    Cool

If you are running the query from SQL*Plus then try this:

    set scan off

    Run your query now.

If you are not using SQL*Plus then try to use '\' to escape a character in the search string. In the Oracle8i Intermedia Text Reference Release 2 (8.1.6) guide, Chapter 5, section Escape Characters this is discussed with an example.

    Hope that helps,
