We will be deploying a new web application using a thin-client 3-tier architecture with a DB2 V6 OS/390 backend.
We would like to have comments on the preferred approach (performance, tuning capabilities, licensing issues) on the following 2 scenarios:

1- DB2 Connect EE installed on the web server.

2- DB2 Run-Time Client installed on the web server talking to DB2 via DB2 Connect EE installed on a separate machine (Gateway). This gateway then could be shared with other Web servers.

Is it legitimate to install the runtime client on a web server ?

Comments would be much appreciated.
