    Unanswered: onbar or ontape

    hello,
    germany is calling.....
    how can i backup my Informix IDS 9.21 with ontape or onbar.
    which parameters are used normally?

    It all depends what you want to do.
    Do you want to use a storage manager?
    Backup over network?
    Backup to a tape or directory? How many tape-drives?
    Do you want it to run in the crontab?
    Do you want your logical logs to be backed up manually/automatically

    For ontape you just have to set the correct TAPEDEV and LTAPEDEV in your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG file.
    Beware that ontape is user-interactive.
    use it with
    ontape -s
    ontape -r

    depend on size of your database too , onbar can serve more data backup than ontape

    That's new...

    The only limit ontape has is teh size of the backup device.
    If it's full, it will ask you to insert a new one.
    The size is set using the TAPESIZE parameters in the ONCONFIG file.
