    hOW TO delete the datafile attached to the tablespace ( Let's say there is no data in the datafile )

    Hya,
    You can drop tablespace:
    drop tablespace tablespace_name including contents and datafiles;

    or you can drop the datafile:
    alter database datafile '/home/oracle/oradata/orcl/users.dbf' offline drop;

    After issue offline drop in mount mode , the database can not open ( alter database open ) .

    Hya,
    Use
    select FILE# from V$RECOVER_FILE;

    get the FILE# and issue

    alter database datafile n offline;
    alter database open;

    n - signifies the number you got in the first select statement.
    If you got 2 then issue alter .... datafile 2....

    you need to drop the tablespace after datafile offline drop in mount mode.

    drop tablespace tablespace_name including contents
