    Unanswered: An awful error

    If anybody has ever dealt with this error
    i would be glad to accept some help

    Many of my applications are halting
    giving me this message :
    sql statement error number -6372(-600)
    ora-00600 - internal error code , arguments : [kposcws0],[],[],[],[],[],[]

    I have observed it is happening when trying
    to fetch next row within a cursor

    TIA

    Miranda

    There could be any number of reasons. However
    I sometimes get a similar (or the same?) "internal error code" when trying to do something on tables where the primary key index are compressed.
    I use Oracle version 8.1.7.1.0. Solution:

    Run this in sql*plus to see if a tables primary
    key index is compressed:

    accept tab prompt "Table name (or part of) > "

    select table_name,index_name,compression,prefix_length
    from user_indexes where index_name in
    (select constraint_name from user_constraints
    where table_name like upper('%&tab%')
    and constraint_type='P');

    If the primary key is compressed (Compress column is "ENABLED" ), then run:

    accept ind prompt "Index name to uncompress > "
    alter index &ind rebuild nocompress;

    Re: An awful error

    Hi Miranda.

    This is an internal error, likely related to scrollable cursor.

    The only reference I've found for OERI:kposcws0 is in the bug fix list of oracle 9iR2. No mention is done in the bug fix list of 8iR3 till 8.1.7.4 (terminal release).

    This is an error of oracle 9.0.1, but you can hit a similar error
    even in an earlier releases because the new releases are not completely "new".

    It happens when you fetch a couple of consecutive null values from the last column of the row of a cursor using a particular OCI call.
    So you can have a look into your code. Are you using OCI ?
    If so you could have hit this bug, that is fixed in 9.0.1.3 or 9.2.1.0.
