    Thumbs up Unanswered: compare MS SQL and MYSQL

    Hello,
    I am developing a B2C portol using jsp and servlets , I need to justify the client regarding the usage of MSSQL or MYSQL db.
    It would be great if some one can help me making a comprative study...

    The first thing that comes to mind is the lack of subselects in Mysql.
    That is something that very few developers can live without

    ms SQL server is a proffesional sql server with all the options a prof. sql server can have. But it only runs on windows

    MySql is supported on multiple platforms, but the 3.23x versions and earlier dont have those proffesional functions like transaction management, subqueries .. versions 4.x , witch are now in beta fase, have those options so it's a bit early to really compare them i think.

    Can't every subquery be replaced by a join structure?

    I have ran in to several different cases where subqueries is the only way to go.
    Are you sure that subqueries are included in the 4.0 version of MySQL? that sounds great if it is.
