    Unanswered: Device Not Online

    Hi,

    When trying to create a database I am receiving the following error:

    ==============================
    CREATE DATABASE failed because the device 'data' is not online.
    ==============================

    What do I need to do to get the device online?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan Daniels

    Hiya,

    If a device goes offline for whatever reason, there is no other way to activate the device unless you stop and restart ASE.

    Find out why the device went offline. If this is unix platform, run the fuser -u command against the device file to check if it is open by any other process.

    You can susequently kill that process using fuser -ku.

    Now stop and start ASE, the errorlog should show if ASE is now device(this particular device) aware.

    Cheers

    device offline

    Hi Willy,

    Yup that did the trick, and although I am not sure, I suspect the device was offline because I had just created / altered it, and after such a create the device needs to be explicitly brought online. The DB on that particular device went offline today after I loaded some dumped data into the DB ... but I found the command 'ONLINE DATABASE my_db_name' brougt it back. All is working OK now. Cheers for all your help.

    Hiya,

    After each load database is complete, you have to manually online the database.

    But loading a database does not explain, why the device would go offline.

    Anyways, recycle of ASE will get it online otherwise.

    Cheers
    Willy
